Estherville – Services for Willis Carl Hilburn, 89, of Estherville, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John Besore III officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Wednesday, September 22, 1993 at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville

Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation prior to the funeral service.

He was born June 14, 1904 at Nevada, the son of J.C. and Rose (Hyden) Hilburn. He began his education in the Nevada schools and graduated from high school at Fernald. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Education and the University of Iowa with a degree in administration. After graduating from college he was an industrial arts teacher and coach. He served as superintendent of schools at Laurens, Iowa Falls from 1945-53 and Estherville from 1953-1971.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and North Star Masonic Lodge of Estherville.

Survivors include two sons: Dwight of Fairmont, Minn. and Douglas of Estherville; grandchildren: Kyle and Mellisa Hilburn of Fairmont; Jeff Hilburn of Nashville, Tenn.; and Lisa Hart, Nickerson, Kans.; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Hilburn of Nevada and special friend, Gertrude Ross, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife who died Oct. 27, 1973; son; seven brothers and sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 23, 1993)
