M.F. Higgins Passes Away
Funeral services were held Monday in the Presbyterian church for Mortimer F. [Frank] Higgins, 60, who died Saturday [January 31, 1939] at his home north of Cylinder. The Rev. Claude Fausnaugh officiated.

Pallbearers were Ed Kirchner, Bert Swanson, Mack Ellis, Henry Neppl, Nick Koenecke, and Charles Lewell. Interment was in the Oak Hill cemetery.

Surviving Mr. Higgins are his wife and two sons, Glen and Warren, at home, five daughters, Mrs. Wilfred Osberg, Mrs. Barbara Grover, Mrs. Gus Ramsey, all of Estherville and May and Emma at home. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 5, 1939)

Mr. Higgins, father of Mrs. Wilfred Osberg whose sudden death was the second tragedy of this week for the family [that] had formerly resided on a farm north of Estherville moving to the Cylinder community two years ago.

Mortimer Frank Higgins was born in Jasper county, April 12, 1878, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Higgins. He had spent most of his life in Iowa as a farmer.

In 1902, he was married to Stella Hammerley [Hammersley] of Weaver county. The widow and seven children are left to mourn his death. They are Glen, Emma, Warren, Mary and Mrs. Barbara Grover at home; Mrs. Gus Ramsey, Mrs. Wilfred Osberg, Estherville; one brother Max Higgins, Ft. Dodge and a sister, Mrs. R.L. Weir of Aberdeen, S.D.

Funeral rites for the esteemed man were held Monday at one-thirty from the Mahlum and Anderson funeral chapel and at two from the Presbyterian church. Rev. Claude Fausnaugh, pastor of the church, officiated. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. Pall bearers were old friends and neighbors, Henry Neppl, Charles Levall, Nick Koenecke, Mack Ellis, Ed Kirchner and Bert Swanson.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Max Higgins and son Bob of Ft. Dodge, Gerald Higgins, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Higgins, Mr. and Mrs. Chap Warner, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dodson, Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Blain, Mr. Howard Hammersley of Gilmore City, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Tubbs, Rutland, Mrs. Fasbender and two sisters of Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Osberg, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Hibbert, Dunnell, Minn., and Robert Graten, Emmetsburg.
