Estherville – Services for Mrs. John (Neva) Higgins, 87, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Wendel officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. She died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1991 at her home in Estherville.Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 5-8 p.m. Friday.
Neva Mae Yates was born July 18, 1904 at Glidden, the daughter of Arthur and Elva (Minor) Yates and moved with her family to Emmet County as a young girl in 1913. She attended Estherville schools through 11th grade. On Oct. 6, 1922 she married John Higgins at Fairmont, Minn. The couple farmed in Dickinson and Emmet Counties for many years and moved into Estherville in 1984.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, past member of the Rebecca Lodge, member of Four Mile Lake Country Club and later Crescent Country Club.
Survivors include her husband John, Estherville; two daughters: Mrs. John (Glenna) Rugtiv, Estherville; Mrs. Cato (Jane) Cimarusti, Encino, Calif.; two brothers: Glen Yates, Ankeny and Arnold Yates, Estherville; four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Lungren, Mrs. Edna Webster, Mrs. Faye Hostetter and Mrs. Emory (Alice) Prentice, all of Estherville; one aunt – Mrs. Milo (Mina) Randall, Solon.
She was preceded in death by her parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 27, 1991)
