1889-1979
Estherville – Harry A. [Alfred] Higbie, 90, Estherville, died Tuesday morning at Holy Family Hospital.Services for Mr. Higbie will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home with the Rev. Harrison Dawes, Spirit Lake, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Thursday until time of services.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace C. Higbie, he was born Aug. 5, 1889, at State Center. He received his education in Grand Meadow, Minn., and was married to Maude E. Long on Jan. 9, 1917, at Puposky, Minn. The couple moved to Estherville in 1943. After the death of his first wife in 1960, he was married to Myrtle Duncan on Sept. 23, 1963, at Estherville.
He was employed with Gamble Robinson in Estherville until 1954 and then was custodian at the Emmet County State Bank for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Mr. Higbie is survived by two sons, Thomas Higbie, Sioux City, and Harry Higbie, Vanderhoff, British Columbia, Canada; three daughters, Mrs. Ann Klein, Estherville, Mrs. Cecil (Mary) Payne, Brandon, Minn., and Mrs. Eldon (Daisy) Rouse, Ayrshire; 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two wives, two sons, two grandchildren, one sister and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 3, 1979)
