Obituary of Carl Hager
Carl Theodore Hager was born October 24, 1874 at Varna, Ill. He attended school at Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill., from which he graduated in 1898. He engaged in the mercantile business for some years at Wenona, [Winona] Ill., and later in office work at Chicago, Ill. On July 25, 1906, he was married to Enwin Gustafson, at Maywood, Ill. In 1913 they came to Estherville, Iowa and have been engaged in farming since that time. Mr. Hager has been in failing health for some time. Last winter he was bed fast quite a while. Though he improved somewhat during the summer he began later to decline. Death finally came to relieve him of his sufferings early Monday morning, January 1st. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Ill. and was active in Lutheran church work here. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, three children, Roland Bernard, Charles Maurice and Leroy Melvin, his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Hager and three sisters, Mrs. Herman Hall of Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Raymond Whiting and Anna of Estherville. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, January 4, by S.A. Berge, of the Estherville Lutheran church. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, January 10, 1923)
