Estherville – Services for Sigvald (Sig) B. Grinde, 96, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Jack Peterson officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. He did Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997 at Rosewood Manor Nursing Home in Estherville.Visitation will be Saturday from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. only at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Estherville. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Jan. 22, 1901 in Grindafjord, Norway, the son of Bertel and Bernhild Grinde. He attended school in Norway through 8th grade then went to cabinet maker’s school also in Norway. He came to this country from Norway when he was 20 years old. He settled in Estherville and worked for the Rock Island Railroad on the bridge gang until 1936. He then painted for Gronstal Bros. until starting his own painting business in 1943. He married Agnes McNab May 31, 1926 at Worthington, Minn. She died Nov. 21, 1943. He married Bernice Lee April 5, 1945 at Jackson, Minn. He was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Grinde of Estherville; son, Douglas of Burlington; step-daughter, Mrs. Axel (LouAnn) Thomsen of Ringsted; six grandchildren: Carol, Cathy, David, Linda, Jane and Laura; three great-grandchildren; brothers: Osmune, Bertel, Olaf and Bjorne Grinde all of Norway. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes; parents; one sister and four brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 24, 1997)
