Simon Frey
Estherville – Services for Simon R. Frey, 78, will be held Thursday at the Calvary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Sunday, Oct. 2, 1983 at Holy Family Hospital.Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home Wednesday evening.
Frey was born Sept. 12, 1905 in Baileyville, Ill., the son of John and Bena (Brandt) Frey. He attended schools near Lime Creek, Minn. In 1935 he moved with his family to the Maple Hill area and on June 15, 1937 he was united in marriage with Maude [Maud] Lucas at the Union Baptist Church in Estherville. The couple moved to a farm north of Estherville in 1943 where he farmed until his retirement two years ago.
Frey was active in organizing churches in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota area, also other states after he received Christ as his personal savior at the age of 27. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Maude, rural Estherville; two daughters: Carol, Estherville and Mrs. William (Ellen) Hansen, Lima, Peru; three brothers, Perry, Pipestone, Minn., Jack, Mankato and Hiram, Port Angeles, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Melius, Ralston, Neb., Mrs. Grace Christensen, Dundee, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 5, 1983)
