Last Rites for George Frank Will Be Held on Monday
Funeral services for George E. [Edward] Frank, an Estherville area resident for many years, will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Harpole Funeral Home in Spirit Lake at 2:30 p.m. in the Methodist Church here. Frank died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Norman Larson in Spirit Lake. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 5, 1960)Last Rites Held Here for George Frank
Last rites were held yesterday afternoon at the Methodist Church here for George Frank who died Saturday in Spirit Lake. Frank was one of the early pioneers of Dickinson County, arriving in1882 at the age of three years with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frank from Wolcott. They settled on a farm east of Terril, living there for 10 years, then moving to Emmet County.On Dec. 1, 1903, he and Mattie Christine Hanson were married. In 1912 they purchased a farm west of the Estherville Golf Course where they built the farm buildings and lived for 33 years. The couple had two daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Violet) Miller of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Norman (Hazel) Larson of Spirit Lake.
Frank was active in the Farmers’ Cooperative Creamery in Estherville. He was a member of the board for more than 20 years and was president of the board for eight years. He joined the Methodist Church at Estherville and later transferred his membership to the Methodist Church in Spirit Lake.
In 1915 Mr. and Mrs. Frank retired and moved to Estherville. In 1948 they purchased a summer resort on the east shore of Spirit Lake. This they sold in 1954 and built a home where they have been living since that time.

In the early days he learned the hardships encountered by the early settlers, such as twisting wild hay and burning it in the stove to keep warm. In the summer he would herd cattle on the wild prairie. Being a member of a large family, with meager means, the children had to pitch in and work hard in order to get food on the table.
