The remains of William D. Markley were brought here from Colorado for burial Saturday. His first wife died and was buried here eighteen years ago. Deceased is remembered by many of the old settlers of Estherville. He belonged to the Odd Fellows lodge and was a brother of O.O. Markley and while they resided here were employed by the B.C.R. & N. Ry. as brakeman. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, April 1, 1913)

Per 1895 census, William Markley, age 30, born Dubuque Co., Ia.; wife Bertha Markley, age 23; son William O. Markley, age 4, born Dickinson Co., Ia; Verna D. Markley, age 2, born Dickinson Co., Ia.
