Estherville – Services for Robert Spencer Knight, 85, Estherville, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Estherville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harvey Throop officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.Mr. Knight died Saturday, Oct. 21, at Memorial Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, was in charge of arrangements.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Knight, he was born March 8, 1893, at Estherville. Mr. Knight received his education in Estherville schools, graduating from high school in 1912.
Mr. Knight served in the United States Army during World War I and was married to Irma Farquhar on June 21, 1922, at Winterset. The couple made their home in Estherville, where Mr. Knight was associated with the Emmet County State Bank at the time of his retirement.
He had also been employed at Oransky Dry Goods Company, Graettinger State Bank and First National Bank in Estherville before joining the Emmet County State Bank.
Mr. Knight was a member of the Presbyterian Church, joining in 1911, and a ruling elder, deacon and superintendent of Sunday School. He was a leader of the first Boy Scout Troop in Emmet County, treasurer of Masonic bodies, commander of Masonic Chapter, Worshipful Master of Knights Templar, president of Kiwanis, member of the library board, chairperson of the Cancer fund, treasurer of Salvation Army, treasurer of the Estherville Board o Education from 1935 to 1971, and served on the board of trustees of the Good Samaritan Center.
He was also a life member of the American Legion, sustaining member of Boy Scouts, charter member of the Emmet County Historical Society, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Knights of Pythias.
Mr. Knight is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Peggy) Sletta, Prior Lake, Minn., and Mrs. James (Jean) Wiant, Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Agnes) Sieben, Summit, N.J., and Mrs. Russell (Margaret) Landis, Charleston, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 24, 1978)
