Estherville – Funeral services for Fern Christina Carlson, 84, of Estherville, were held Tuesday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. She died Friday, Sept. 30, 1994 at her home. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Estherville was in charge of arrangements.

She was born March 26, 1910 at Dunnell, Minn., the daughter of Carl and Clara (Peters) Carlson. She moved with her family to Estherville at the age of 10. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1927 and then attended Estherville Junior College one year. She taught in rural schools in Emmet and Kossuth Counties before joining the Estherville Elementary faculty in 1950 after continuing her education at Iowa Teachers College and Drake University. She taught lower elementary classes until her retirement in 1975. She remained single.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, church choir, Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Educators and the Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include a niece, Madalyn Allen of Tucson, Arizona; several cousins, great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Mildred and a brother, Robert. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 5, 1994)
