Mrs. Neil Brown Dies; Rites Set
Mrs. Neil K. Brown, 53, well-known Estherville resident for more than 30 years, died this morning at 8:15 at Holy Family Hospital. Mrs. Brown had been in failing health for two years and a patient at the hospital for the past six months. Her death was attributed to cancer.

The former Dorothy Ehlers came to Estherville in September, 1931, as vocal music teacher at Estherville High School and continued to teach here for the next four years. Prior to coming to Estherville, she had taught music at What Cheer for one year.

She was married Nov. 8, 1935 to Neil K. Brown of Estherville at Salem, S.D., and the couple after their marriage, returned to Estherville to make their home.

Mrs. Brown continued with her music through work in her church, First Presbyterian, in which she has served as director of the Chancel Choir, director of the Geneva Choir, and afterwards was a chancel choir member and soloist for many years as well as a member of the women’s quartet.

Mrs. Brown was an elder of First Presbyterian Church, served as president of the local UPW, was awarded a life membership in UPW, and served as circle leader and was active in all branches of church work as long as her health permitted.

Mrs. Brown was a member and past president of P.E.O., a past member of Panhellenic, a member of the now inactive TNT Club, a past PTA president and past president of band mothers.

Born Nov. 9, 1908 at Ogden, she was the daughter of Henry and Margaret Ehlers. She attended elementary school in Ogden and was graduated from high school there. She was graduated from Coe College at Cedar Rapids in 1930.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband; three sons, Bruce of Estacada, Ore., Perry, a student at Coe College, and Jeff, at home; two grandchildren, Keven Keith and Elizabeth Ann Brown; her mother and one sister, Mrs. Alma Reimers of Ogden.

Preceding her in death were her father and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brown are to be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. James K. Lyon officiating. Interment is to be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home from Friday noon until 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The casket will not be opened at the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 1, 1962)
