Mrs. John Barnhart Pioneer of This City Dies at Davenport
Mrs. John Barnharat, one of the pioneer ladies of this city, passed away Wednesday morning, October 21st, at a hospital at Burlington. She had been ill for many months of cancer and from May until July was at a hospital in Cedar Rapids.Funeral was held Saturday at Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Barnhart had made her own arrangements.
Mrs. Barnhart was before her marriage Miss Orpha Rutan, daughter of J. D. Rutan, who for many years was Clerk of Court of Emmet County. Mrs. [Mr.] Barnhart was an engineer on the Rock Island and is now employed in railroad work at Burlington. They lived in Cedar Rapids and Minneapolis after leaving Estherville.
Mrs. Barnhart was nearly sixty years old. There is an adopted daughter besides the husband left to mourn her passing. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 28, 1925)
