P.P. Barron
The sudden death of P.P. Barron last Thursday morning at 8:30 o’clock at Highmore, S.D., came as a great surprise to the community. P.P. Barron, accompanied by L.L. Bixby, I.J. Atwood, H.H. Tosdal and Frank Linke left last Tuesday for Highmore, S.D., on a land tour. Mr. Barron was not in the best of health when he left home and had not been for some time past. When they reached Spirit Lake he was not feeling as well as usual but went on to Highmore with the others. Wednesday he had a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered. R.A. Barron was immediately notified by telephone Wednesday and with Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Streator started for Highmore. While on their way they received another telegram from Highmore that Mr. Barron had died at 8:30 o’clock Thursday morning.

The remains were brought back to Estherville Friday afternoon and interred in Oak Hill cemetery Saturday morning. The funeral services were held at the Roy Barron residence Saturday at 10 o’clock a.m., Rev. W.E. McLeod officiating. Royal Arch Masons had charge of the funeral.

Frank Barron and wife, of Sibley, and Mrs. Chandler, of Spirit Lake, were here to attend the funeral.

P.P. Barron was born October 5, 1829 [per cemetery records 1831], in Vermont. On January 1st, 1854, he was united in marriage to Sarah P. Powell, of Vermont. One son, Fenimore, was born to bless this union. Mrs. Sarah P. Barron died a few years after the marriage. In February, 1869, Mr. Barron was again joined in marriage, this time to Miss Cora A. Huntley of Vermont. Four children, Fannie, Eva, Ruth and Roy, added to make their marriage a happy one. In May, 1888, a short time after coming west, Mrs. Cora A. Barron died at Wadena, Minnesota. Mr. Barron moved his family to Estherville in 1890 and has since that time been closely allied with Estherville’s business progress. He has been in the hardware business most of the time since coming to Estherville, but was compelled to retire from active business last fall on account of poor health. The last few years he made his home with his son, R.A. Barron.

P.P. Barron was a man of sterling qualities, always having the highest regards for honesty in all his varied business dealings. He was a great lover of home and his family. His grandson, Roy Barron’s little boy, was a great comfort to grandpa in his reclining years. Mr. Barron’s life has been filled with many cares and sorrow, but underneath the careworn covering there was the gentleman of honor.

The surviving children, Mrs. W.A. Streator and Roy Barron, have the most hearty sympathy which their many friends can extend to them. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 14, 1902)

P. P. BARRON DEAD
The Veteran Merchant Answers Death's Call Suddenly

Death comes oftentimes when least expected, claiming its victims with a grim determination that knows no defeat. So it was with P. P. Barron. Stricken down without a moment's warning, for from home, death claimed him for her own before his loved ones could reach his side.

He had not been feeling in the best of health for some time and last Tuesday morning, in company with a number of other Estherville people, started for Highmore, S. D. thinking a few days there would be beneficial. Before he reached Spirit Lake he had a warning, but thought the faintness would pass away. When he reached the end of his journey he suffered a stroke of apoplexy, growing weaker and weaker until 9:30 Thursday [May 8, 1902] morning when he breathed his last. R. A. Barron and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Streater were then on their way to Highmore. They returned Friday evening with the remains.

The funeral was held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the family home, conducted by Rev. W. E. McLeod of the Presbyterian church. The Masons attended in a body and took charge of the services at the cemetery. The internment was in Oak Hill.

P. P. Barron was 73 years of age. He was a thorough business man, and a man who enjoyed the fullest measure of esteem and respect. Genial, charitable and upright always was his character. He is survived by a son and a daughter, R. A. Barron and Mrs. W. A. Streater. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, Iowa, May 15, 1902)
