Gun of Anton Minor Accidentally Discharged – Died Before Reaching Hospital
A fatal accident occurred Sunday morning about eleven o’clock when Henry Andressen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edo Andressen who live near Gruver on the Roy A. Burt farm, was shot and killed almost instantly while on a hunting trip. In company with Jack Hartman and Anton Minor, his cousin’s husband, he started out early in the morning. Mr. Minor was using a 22 rifle to hunt with and had stopped to take the cartridges out of the gun. Mr. Andressen came over to see what he was doing, not noticing that the gun was pointed in his direction. The bullet hit him in the neck coming through far enough to cause a lump on the other side. He was taken to the Birney Hospital at once but before they reached there he had passed away. It was purely an accident and no one seems to be responsible for Mr. Andressen’s death. Henry Andressen was born April 10, 1905, and at the time of his death was nearly twenty years of age. He had been educate in the Emmet county rural schools and since graduation had been helping his father on the farm. He was the only son of a family of five children. The sisters who survive him are Mrs. John Deling of Superior, Elsie, Gretchen and Lizzie at home. He was a clean-cut, honorable young man and his sudden death fills the community as well as the home with grief. He was a favorite among his associates and because of his happy ways always made friends wherever he went. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the home and the German Lutheran church with Rev. A. Eichmann, of Spirit Lake in charge. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, December 3, 1924)
