John Horswell
John Simmons Horswell, 94, former Estherville resident, died at 6:55 a.m. Sunday [September 5, 1971] at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. He had been in poor health for two years.

He was born Sept.23, 1876, near Nevada, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Horswell.

He moved as a boy with his parents to Estherville. He moved to Harris in 1916 where he married Dindie Johnson in 1918. He made his home there until 1934 when he returned to Estherville. He lived here until 1955 when he moved to Ames. He became a resident of Friendship Haven in 1968.

Mr. Horswell received his education in Estherville schools and attended Iowa State College at Ames. He was a farmer and horse breeder most of his life.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Merle, Thompson; and Eugene of Fairmont; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and one brother, Hugo, Pomona, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reese-Henry Funeral Home in Estherville, the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home until time of the funeral on Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 7, 1971)
