Joy Horswell, 87, Dies; Services to Be Saturday
Funeral services for Joy R. Horswell, 87, who died Thursday night at 10:17 p.m. at the Holy Family Hospital will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. H. Allen Wirtz will officiate.Mr. Horswell was a real estate agent in Estherville for many years. He worked on the local draft board from 1917-1967. He was chairman at the time of his retirement.
He was born in Atlantic, Iowa, May 13, 1882, to the Rev. and Mrs. John R. Horswell. His father was a Methodist minister.
He received his education in the Atlantic area and came to the Estherville area with his parents at the age of 13.
He was married Dec. 4, 1913, to Elsie Leo at Logan, Iowa. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Leo W. of Dallas, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Vera Joyce) Dewey of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Kenneth (Genevieve) Frank, of Milwaukee, Wis.; seven grandchildren; two brothers, John of Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, and Hugo of Pomona, Calif.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. this evening until time of services Saturday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 29, 1969)
