Prominent Emmet County Farmer
John Henry Frank, 66, prominent retired farmer of this area, died at 9:15 a.m. yesterday at Colonial hospital at Rochester where he was recovering from a bladder operation. He had been in the hospital there for two weeks after becoming ill a few days before.

Mr. Frank was one of the first incorporators of the D.E.K. Rural Electric cooperative, which was formed July 13, 1938, and had been treasurer of the board of directors since Feb. 13, 1940. Last Feb. 12 he also was elected a director to represent D.E.K. on the Corn Belt Power cooperative.

He has been a member of the Twelve Mile Lake township school board of directors for the past 25 years, including the past 12 years when he served as secretary of the board. He also was a member of the Methodist church and the Knights of Pythias lodge.

Born Aug. 18, 1886, in Terril, Mr. Frank has lived his entire life on farms in Dickinson and Emmet counties. He retired from farming in 1946 but continued to live on his farm seven miles southwest of Estherville where he has lived since about 1912.

He married Tina [Tena] Brandt Nov. 4, 1907. She died within a year in the summer of 1908. On Dec. 12, 1912, he was married to Julia Grace Hite.

Surviving his death are four children, Forrest of Des Moines, Francis of Sherburn, Mrs. Ervin (Verda) Rierson of Graettinger and Mrs. Art (Dorthea) Peterson of Estherville; and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Lena Houltshouser of Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Minnie Hastings of Emmetsburg, Mrs. Kate Gorton of Estherville, George of Spirit Lake, Walter of Oakland, Calif., and Ben of Stockton, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sandin funeral home at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church, the Rev. H. Hughes Dill officiating. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 20, 1952)
