J.H. Willey Passed Away on Saturday
J.H. Willey, a long time resident of this county and city, passed away at his home in this city at about six o’clock Saturday [April 19 1947] morning. Mr. Willey had been in failing health for a long time and had been bedfast since the latter part of December.Hi Willey, as he was known, came to this county in 1898 and was engaged in farming until about a year ago when he retired and moved to this city. Mr. Willey was always interested in politics and attended many county and state conventions. He was a man well met and had a host of friends in this county and city.
Mr. Willey was born at Columbus Junction November 10, 1871. He was united in marriage to Cora Bates at Conesville on October 6, 1897. A year later they moved to this county to make their home.
Mr. Wiley was a member of the Methodist Church, and a long time member of the Modern Woodman lodge.
He is survived by his widow and two sons, James Willey of Dunnell and Claude Willey, of this city, and one daughter, Mrs. R.D. Jones of this city.
The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the Methodist Church at 2:30, the Rev. Cecil J. Semans officiating. Interment was made in the east Side cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 24, 1947)
