The news of the sudden death of Mrs. Robert West on last Sunday afternoon came as a sudden shock to the many friends she has in this county. Mrs. West has lived in the county for the past four years. During that time she has made many close and lasting friends. The West families are among the pioneer resident of this county.Nellie Emeline White was born at Seneca, Illinois, October 6th, 1873, and died at her home in Estherville, Iowa at 3:00 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 1914 aged forty years, four months and nine days. During her early childhood days her parents moved to Iowa. Her childhood days were spent in the usual manner, attending school and helping with the work at home.
On the 15th of September, 1891, she was married to Robert J. West. This union has been blessed with six children, Glenn, Fern, Rose, George and Everet and one babe that died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. West made their home on a farm about five miles east of Estherville up to 1909 when they moved to town in order that their children might have better school advantages.
During her younger days Mrs. West was a regular attendant at the Methodist church where she took an interest in the church work. Later in life she endeavored to attend church services as much as her circumstances would permit. She was a faithful member of the Royal Neighbors lodge who had part in the funeral services. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, five children, a sister living in Chicago beside her many brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces, and a large number of neighbors and friends. She has been a good wife, a kind mother, a faithful neighbor and friend and will be missed by all.
The funeral services were held in the Baptist church at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by Rev. J. Frederic Catlin. The body was laid to rest by the side of the babe who was buried several years ago in the cemetery at the north east part of town. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 18, 1914)
