William P. Watson
Estherville – Services for William P. [Prosser] Watson, 87, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Henry and Olson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clifford Haider officiating. He died Tuesday [October 13, 1981] in Holy Family Hospital.Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Friday.
He was born June 22, 1894 at Grinnell, Iowa the son of Franklin S. and Mathilda (Prosser) Watson. On Sept. 1, 1915 he was united in marriage to Mercy Adams at Des Moines. He worked in Grinnell at the Grinnell Spaulding Co. and Grinnell Washing Machine Co. before moving to Newton where he worked for Maytag for 18 years before moving to Estherville in 1941 where he owned and operated the O.K. Tire Shop. He retired in 1965.
Mr. Watson was a member of the United Methodist Church, Odd Fellows Lodge (belonging to all branches – Subordinate, Encampment, Patriarch Militant), Rebeccah’s Lodge and Degree of Honor.
He is survived by his wife Mercy, Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Irene) Immel, Charles City, Ia., Mrs. Oakly (Doris) Poortinga, Reasonor, Ia.; one son William S. Watson, Estherville; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 15, 1981)
