Oswald M. Tostenrud Dies at 74
Oswald M. Tostenrud, 74, well-known Estherville resident and retired Rock Island conductor, died suddenly yesterday at 7:30 a.m. at his home after suffering a coronary occlusion. Mr. Tostenrud had not been ill previous to the attack but his death occurred yesterday morning before his physician could reach the Tostenrud.Mr.Tostenrud retired in September, 1957 after 43 years of service as conductor on the Rock Island.
Born Sept. 10, 1887 at Osage, he was the son of Ole and Mary Tostenrud. He moved while a youngster with his parents to Minnesota and received his education in the Ellsworth, Minn. schools.
He was married Oct. 30, 1912 to Irene C. Connell at LuVerne, Minn. In 1918, Mr. and Mrs. Tostenrud moved to Emmet County and from that time until his retirement he had worked out of Estherville as conductor.
Mr. Tostenrud was a member of the local Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
Surviving his death are his wife, three sons, Russell, of Emmetsburg, Lane, at home, Don of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Lucylle) Anderson and Mrs. Ed (Mary) Petersen, both of Estherville; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter,.
Also surviving are three brothers, Al of Estherville, Arthur of Litchfield, Minn., Ralph of Dunnell, MInn.; and two sisters, Florence Tostenrud of Estherville and Mrs. E.H. Dunker of Aberdeen, S.D.
Funeral services are to be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home, the Rev. James K. Lyon officiating. Burial is to be in East Side cemetery.
