Loyal R. Smith Dies; Services to Be Tuesday
Loyal Ross Smith, 65, Estherville, died Saturday (May 17, 1969] at 5:50 a.m. at Holy Family Hospital, after an illness of two months. Death was attributed to several heart attacks.

He was born at New Salem, Ill., Oct. 1, 1903, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Smith. The family moved to Fayette, Ind., when he was a boy. At the age of 19, he came to Iowa and was joined by his parentws a short time later.

He lived on a farm near Huntington, Iowa, and on Feb. 7, 1929, he married Erma Ziemer at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dunnell, Minn.

He was confirmed by Rev. Miller at Ceylon, Minn.

After marriage, he worked for Charles Jackson near Wallingford for one year. He then moved to a farm near Gruver, where he and his wife lived for two years. They returned to the Wallingford area again, where they lived for six years.

After quitting farming, he became a salesman for Moorman Mfg. Co. for 28 years, until his retirement in 1965.

He was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville, belonged to the Lutheran Laymen’s League, the men’s organization and Aquiscilla Club, and serviced as a church elder for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Erma; two sons, Larry, Fremont, Neb., and Frank Allen, Fort Madison; two daughters, Mrs. Rolland (Carol) Shipley, Estherville; and Mrs. James (Lavonne) Kirk, Estherville; his father, Frank P., Estherville; three brothers, Omar, Milford; Donald, Hoffman, Minn.; Buren, Costa Mesa, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Earl (Mary) Russell, Milford; Mrs. George (Gertrude) Hendricksen, Kirkwood, Wash.; 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his mother, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church inEstherville, with the Rev. W.H. Discher officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery in Estherville.

A family service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the church.

Pallbearers are O.E. Olson, Herb Fransen, Howard Nitz, Carl Ahrens, Roy Enerson, Herman Andresen. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Jackson, Leroy Schacherer, Ray Ruppert, Lewis Hegen, Robert Knight, E.B. Burg.

Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home until noon on Tuesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 19, 1969)
