Esther Smith Rites Held
Mrs. Lonnie (Esther) Smith, 77, Estherville, died at 8:20 p.m. Feb. 9, 1973, at Holy Family Hospital.Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (today) at Estherville Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating. Interment was in East Side Cemetery.
She was born May 3, 1895, at Yale, Iowa, to Charles and Lottie Miller Horr. She was educated in Panora and Lake Park schools and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school 3 ½ years at Lake Park and Superior schools before her marriage.
On May 28, 1918, she was married to Lonnie Smith at Lake Park and they lived in Lake Park until 1936 when they moved to Estherville. She was a member of United Methodist Church, the UMCW and Alpha Club.
Survivors include her husband, Lonnie; one son, Wayne Smith, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. Jay (Evelyn) Hoien; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Horr, Dallas, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. M.E. Finnern, North Hollywood, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Serving as pallbearers were Walter Pope, Wilson Small, Howard Hatland, Floyd Schenck, Ralph La Rue and Lyle Bradeen. Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, was in charge of arrangements. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 12, 1973)
