Lonnie Smith
Estherville Services for Lonnie S. Smith, 81, Estherville, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Estherville, with the Rev. Max Goldman officiating. Interment will be in East Sid Cemetery, Estherville.

Mr. Smith died July 9, 1978, at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Visitation will be at Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, until the body is taken to the church Wednesday morning.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Caspar Smith, he was born Sept. 6, 1896, at Lawn Hill in Hardin County. He moved with his family to a farm north of Lake Park at the age of seven and received his education in schools in the Lake Park area.

Mr. Smith was married to Esther Mae Horr at Lake Park on May 28, 1918. He farmed southwest of Lake Park until 1936, when moving to Estherville he was a salesman until his retirement in 1961.

Mrs. Succumbed after 53 years of married life and he was married to Ethel Rowe Christ on Oct. 7, 1973, at Spirit Lake. They lived at Spirit Lake until moving to the Good Samaritan apartments, Estherville, in December, 1976.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Ethel; one daughter, Mrs. Jay (Evelyn) Hoien, Estherville; one son, Wayne Smith, Wilkes Baire, Pa.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Dale (Muriel) Kneller, West Des Moines, and Mrs. Paul (Arlene) McLarnan, Phoenix, Ariz.; one step-son, Donald Christ, Lake Park; one sister, Mrs. Murl (Bessie) Burnside, Spirit Lake; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren1

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 11, 1978)
