Estherville Woman Dies in Christmas Day Crash
Estherville – An 82-year-old Estherville woman was pronounced dead on arrival at Holy Family Hospital Tuesday morning, following a one-car accident which occurred about two miles east of Estherville.According to the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department, Ellen Christine Swanson was eastbound on the Fifth Avenue North blacktop at about 7 a.m. when she failed to stop at a T-intersection formed by Emmet County Road N-32.
Swanson’s car then travelled into the ditch and ultimately struck a utility pole owned by DEK. The vehicle sustained severe damage to the front and left front.
Services for Mrs. Swanson will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Estherville Lutheran Church with interment in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, after 3 p.m. Thursday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 28, 1979)

Interment will be in East Side Cemetery.Mrs. Swanson was fatally injured Dec. 25 in a one-car accident about two miles east of Estherville.
Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home until 9:30 a.m. Friday and at the church prior to services.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Carlson, she was born Sept. 27, 1897, at Des Moines. She received her education in Des Moines schools and later moved with her fami9ly to the Estherville area.
She was married to Burt [Bert] Swanson on Dec. 16, 1914, in Estherville and the couple farmed in the Estherville area most of their life. She was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church, Four Mile Lake Club and Estherville Garden Club.
Mrs. Swanson is survived by three sons, Kenneth Swanson, Estherville, Robert Swanson, Blue Grass, and Wilbur Swanson, Dolliver; nine grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and one grandson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 27, 1979)
