Richard Lyle Summers, the son of Jerald and Luella (Lough) Summers, was born July 27, 1942, in Gruver, Iowa. He passed away Friday, January 4, 2008, at his home in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 65.
He received his education in the Ringsted and Estherville schools and graduated from Estherville High School in 1961. After graduation from high school, Dick served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam Conflict. Following his honorable discharge from military duty he returned to Estherville where he was employed at John Morrell and Company. Later he went to work for Art's Way Manufacturing in Armstrong, Iowa, where he was employed for a number of years. Then DIck went to work at Crystal Tips in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Most recently he had been employed at Polaris Industries in Spirit Lake from where he retired in 2004. Dick especially enjoyed spending time with his family and also watching football. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and he loved dogs.
Left to cherish Dick's memory are his two sons, Michael and Jason Summers both of Estherville; one daughter, Kayleen Turner and her husband, Chris of Camanche, Iowa; step-daughters, Julie of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Laurie and Sherri of Mesa, Arizona; four grandchildren; mother, Luella Summers of Estherville; sister, Shirley Ukasick of Estherville; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Vickie Snyder of Estherville.
Preceding Dick in death were his father; brother, Dennis and grandparents. (MC)
