Eugene John Strube, 62, of Estherville, died Tuesday, March 29, 1988 on County Road #52 northwest of Ringsted. His funeral was Friday, April 1, 1988 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville. Pastor Richard A. Berger officiated.
Eugene Strube was born April 18, 1925 at Terril, Iowa to John Oscar and Bernice Leone (Spencer) Strube and attended the Terril schools. On June 24, 1950 he was united in marriage to Sylvia Jane Cassem at Jackson, Minn.
Eugene had lived all his life in the Terril and Estherville area. After his marriage he was employed by the Estherville Co-op Creamery, later for the Estherville International Dealership and for the past 19 years for the Emmet County Secondary Road Department.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of VFW, was in WWII, serving with the U.S. Navy and a member of American Post. He enjoyed woodworking, having made shelves, clocks and many other craft items for his family, was an avid sprint car race fan, a hobby he shared with his family, and also enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Survivors include his wife Sylvia of Estherville; two sons, Gary and his wife Kay of Estherville and Kevin and his wife Karen, also of Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Marlys) Zieckler, of Estherville and Janice Strube also of Estherville; three grandchildren: Tara Zieckler and Kyle and Kipp Strube; his mother, Bernice Strube of Estherville, and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Irma Agerbeck.
Interment was made in the East Side Cemetery with full military rites and the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Estherville was in charge of arrangements. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, April 7, 1988)
