George Stubbs Dies
George Stubbs, 73, retired farmer, died at 2 a.m. today at his home, 1108 North Fifth street. He died of a heart attack after several years of poor health. Mr. Stubbs, born Sept. 25, 1878, married Elizabeth Gray in southern Iowa. They lived for several years on a farm four miles south of Estherville. Mr. Stubbs retired about a year ago and moved to his present home. Surviving his death are his wife and a son Richard of Heron Lake, Minn. George W. Stubbs, a son of Richard and Eliza Barnard Stubbs, was born near Monica, Ill., Sept. 25, 1878, and passed away at his home, at 1:45 a.m. on Feb. 18, 1952, at the age of 73 years. After several years of poor health, death came during a heart attack. He was one of a family of seven children.On Nov. 26, 1907, at Jefferson, he was married to Mary Elizabeth Gray. To this union were born two children, a son, Richard Daniel, and a daughter who died at birth.
In 1915, Mr. and Mrs. Stubbs moved to Emmet county. His main occupation was farming. He retired to his present home at 1108 North Fifth street, Sept. 5, 1950.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Adena Ayers, Mrs. Olive Roney, and four brothers, John L., Richard H., Ira V., and Charlie A. Survivors are his wife, and son, Richard D. of Heron Lake, Minn., four nephews and three nieces.
Funeral services Wednesday afternoon at the Sternborg funeral chapel, were conducted by the Rev. L.G. Hinderaker, Mrs. N.K. Brown and Mrs. W.W. Ferguson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 21, 1952)
