Lawrence M. Solmonson, world war veteran passed to his reward in the veterans hospital at Des Moines, Friday [September 10, 1937].

Was World War Veteran
Mr. Solmonson, son of Mrs. Emma Solmonson, of east of Estherville, had been in failing health since his discharge from service on January, 1919. He was a sufferer since his discharge from service on January, 1919. He was a sufferer from arthritis and had received treatment in hospitals at Dwight, Ill. And Ft. Snelling, Minn., for several years.

Recently he had been with his mother at the farm home but became seriously ill Sept. 1 and was taken to the Des Moines hospital for an operation for appendicitis. He failed to recover from the ordeal.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at one-thirty from the home and at two-thirty from the Estherville Lutheran church with the pastor Rev. L. A. Mathre in charge.

Interment was made in the East Side cemetery. Members of the Maple Hill post, American Legion acted as active and honorary pall bearers and the service Star Legion attended in a body.

Lawrence was respected and beloved by a large circle of friends who have known him during his lifelong residence in this community. He was born on the farm of his parents in Swan Lake township on February 25, 1894, and was educated in the county schools. After completing his school work he was engaged in farming until entering the service the world war on July 21, 1918.

Surviving are the mother, three brothers, Harvey, Orvis and Albert and a sister, Mrs. Jake Taylor all of Emmet county and eleven nieces and nephews. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 14, 1937)

Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Peterson, Mrs. J.B. Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. O.P. Stow attended the funeral of Lawrence Solmonson near Gruver Monday afternoon. Mr. Solmonson passed at the Ds Moines Veterans hospital last Saturday following an operation. Mr. Solmonson was a veteran of the world war.
