Resident of Gruver Since 1932 Dies
Soren Sorenson, 82, Gruver resident since 1932, died shortly after midnight today at Holy Family Hospital. Mr. Sorenson had been in poor health for the past several years and been hospitalized for the past two weeks. Death was attributed to a heart condition and complications.

Born Dec. 17, 1878 at Koling, Denmark, he was the son of Paul and Anna Sorenson. He came with his parents to this country when five years of age. The family settled at Livermore and later moved to Emmetsburg where the father was employed on the railroad.

On Aug. 26, 1903, Mr. Sorenson and Alma Mattie Brovold were married at Livermore. Three years later he began work for the Rock Island Railroad at Hardy. The couple continued to live there until 1932 when they moved to Gruver where Mr. Sorenson was section foreman until time of his retirement in May, 1944.

He was a member of the Gruver Presbyterian Church and of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

Mr. Sorenson is survived by his widow; two sons, Harry of Cedar Falls and Melvin, at home; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren, two brothers, Charles of Algona and Ralph of Downers Grove, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harry and James and one sister, Pauline.

Funeral services have tentatively been set for Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Gruver Presbyterian Church. Further details as to the services will be published in tomorrow’s Daily News. Burial is to be in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. L.V. Osborne officiating. Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 20, 1961)

Sorenson Funeral Services Will be Held on Monday
Funeral services for Soren Sorenson, longtime Gruver resident who died early yesterday at Holy Family Hospital, are to be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Gruver Presbyterian Church, the Rev. L.V. Osborne officiating. Burial will be in East Side cemetery. Friends may call at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Monday at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. Pallbearers are to be George Harvey, John Harvey, Gus Ramsey, Robert Woods, Elbert Hays and Walter Pope. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 21, 1961)
