Isaac Vedder Passes Hence
Tuesday [December 7, 1915] forenoon at four o’clock occured the death of Mr. Isaac Vedder of this city. Mr. Vedder had been sick for a number of years and for the last year or more had been confined to the house and to his bed for the greater share of the time. At times he suffered severely and this so weakened him that he failed to withstand the ravages of the disease. The body was taken by auto Wednesday afternoon and the funeral held from that place Thursday afternoon. The particulars of his life will be given next week. He leaves a wife and several children, the oldest being a son, George Vedder. (Palo Alto Reporter, Emmetsburg, IA, December 9, 1915)

The Late Isaac Vedder
The Funeral Was Held at Laurens Thursday
Tuesday evening of last week Isaac Vedder died at his home in this city after an illness of almost three years. His condition was such that practically nothing could be done to help him. Wednesday evening short services were conducted at the residence by Rev. C.H. VanMetre, pastor of the M.E. church, after which the remains were taken to his former home at Laurens for burial. The funeral was held at that place on Thursday and was conducted by Rev. E.T. Gerkin, pastor of the M.E. church of that place. The body was interred in the Laurens cemetery. There were many old friends and neighbors in attendance.

Mrs. [Mr.] Vedder was born in Platt County, Illinois, April 20, 1864. His age was 51. He came to Iowa in 1891. He was married to Miss Mary Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.O. Williams of this city, September 2, 1891. Mr. and Mrs. Vedder lived for some time on a farm near Mallard, after which they became residents of Laurens, remaining there for ten years. They came to Emmetsburg three years ago last October. The deceased is survived by Mrs. Vedder, one son and five daughters. The son, George, was employed in the Democrat office for many years. He is now foreman in the office of the Pocahontas Democrat. Miss Gladys lives with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson of Rush Lake township, Miss Mildred has a position in the Boston store at Fort Dodge and Misses Alcia, Ora, and Eunice are at home. The aged mother, Mrs. Chris Dilocker, resides at Laurens and a brother John D. Vedder, lives near Emmetsburg.

Mr. Vedder was a quiet, unassuming man. He was genial and neighborly and formed during his early residence in this county friendships that were strong and lasting until death took him from his life’s scenes. After coming to Emmetsburg he could not move much owing to his weakened condition. He was a man of good habits and he appreciated worthy and ennobling traits in others. He gave to his sons and daughters an example that was edifying and to the community the record of a life spent in deeds that were commendable. The Democrat extends sincere sympathy to the sorrowing wife, mother, son and daughters and other relatives. (Emmetsburg Democrat, Emmetsburg, IA, December 15, 1915)
