Estherville – William James VanHorn, 75, Estherville, died Saturday, April 22, at Holy Family Hospital.Services for Mr. VanHorn will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Estherville, with the Rev. Ronald Flentgen officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery.
Friends may call at Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, until noon Tuesday, when the body will be taken to the church.
Mr. VanHorn was born July 19, 1902, at Maquoketa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John VanHorn. He received his education in Livermore schools and was married to Katheryn Norell on June 26, 1929, at Marathon.
The VanHorns came to Estherville in 1929, where Mr. VanHorn worked for Tobin Packing Company and later for John Morrell and Company until retiring in 1968. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Mr. VanHorn is survived by his wife, Katheryn; three sons, Russell VanHorn, Fremont, Neb., Joe VanHorn, Watskea, Ill., and William VanHorn, Orlando, Fla.; Two daughters, Mrs. John (Barbra) Poulos, Estherville, and Mrs. Russell (Laura Lee) Preston, Melbourne; 12 grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Larson, Albert Lea, Minn., and Mrs. Elmer Shearer, Waukesha, Wisc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 24, 1978)
