W. Vandevanter Dies of Heart Attack at Home
Wayne (Vandy) Vandevanter, 61, died at his home last evening as the result of a heart attack.

He was born June 4, 1909, in Revere, Mo., and moved to Princeton, Minn., where he stayed until 1928, when he moved to Emmet County. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Shelby [Selby] Vandevanter.

On June 2, 1934, he married Florine Brandt in Spirit Lake.

After coming to Emmet County he operated the Super Value Store for 12 years, the Vandy Café for five years, and the Vandy Construction Company for seven years. For the past 10 years he has been employed by the Arts-Way, Mfg. Co.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Donnabelle) DeMoss, Emmetsburg, and Mrs. Bob (Vivian) McClelland of Paton; one son, Jon, who is serving with the Army in Korea; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating.

Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home anytime on Friday and until 11 a.m. on Saturday, when the body will be taken to the church.

Military graveside services will be held. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 15, 1970)
