Jean L. Sheppard Dies; Private Services Set
Estherville – Jean L. Sheppard, 62, died at 9:01 p.m. Feb. 23 in Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Private funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church, Estherville with the Rev. James Harmon officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery.

Mr. Sheppard was born July 10, 1911 in Princeton, Kan., to Burl and Pearl Bringolf Sheppard. When he was 6 years old, the family moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa, where he was educated. He was graduated from high school in 1928 and was married to Marguerite Humphreys on March 5, 1935 in Albany, Mo.

He served as a federal meat inspector for John Morrell and Co. in Ottumwa and moved to Estherville in 1942. He has been in failing health for the past five years and retired about two years ago.

Mr. Sheppard was a member of the Christian Church, and active on the church board and church organization. He was a member of North Star Lodge 447 and a past master of the lodge.

Survivors include his wife; one son, John L. Sheppard, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Sheppard, of Burke, Va.; one brother, Guy V. Sheppard of Ben Lomand, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 25, 1974)
