Bert Shirley Services Set Saturday
Bert Willis Shirley, 85, Estherville, died at Holy Family Hospital at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 1972.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with the Rev. Robert K. Miller and the Rev. Fred Sawyer officiating. Interment will be made in East Side Cemetery.

Mr. Shirley was born June 27, 1887, in Lebanon, Ind. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Shirley and he received his education in schools in Lebanon. On Dec. 10, 1907, he was married to Millie Wiers at Poila, Ind.

They came to Emmet County in 1920 and farmed, later moving into Estherville, where he did custodial work for a time. He was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Millie; three daughters, Mrs. Calvin (Fern) Wilson of Tipton, Mrs. Harley (Phyllis) Higley of Havelock and Mrs. Bernard (Lena) Jensen [Jansen] of Fair Oaks, Calif.; six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Nunnally of Lebanon, Ind., Mrs. Minnie Dillon of Pittsboro, Ind., and Mrs. Beulah Baker of Sheridan, Ind.; and two brothers, Carl Shirley of Pittsboro, Ind., and Levi Shirley of Humbird, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers will be Melvin Ellis, Merle Andre, Wayne Andre, Russell Eike, Floyd Johnson and Wayne Russell. Friends may call at any time Friday and until time of services Saturday at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 12, 1972)
