Mrs. Henry O. Schroeder Dies at 66
Mrs. Henry O. Schroeder, 66, resident of Emmet county for 45 years, died Saturday [February 9, 1957] night at 8 o’clock of a heart ailment. Mrs. Schroeder had been at Holy Family Hospital for the past week.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Thomas G. Melton officiating. Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home until 9 a.m. at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services.
The casket will not be open following the service. Burial will be in East Side cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Jespersen, Charles Heinrich, Walter Pope, William Nielsen, August Rosenberger and Jim Hill.
The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sebo Behrends, Lena Marie Behrends was born Nov. 28, 1890 at Danforth, Ill. She received her schooling in the Danforth schools.
Miss Behrends was united in marriage to Henry Schroeder, Oct. 14, 1907, at Gilman, Ill. They farmed in Illinois for two years prior to moving to Iowa and Emmet county where they farmed near Ringsted and seven miles east of Estherville until retirement five years ago.
Since retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder have been living in their home at 9 S. 9th St., Estherville.
Survivors in addition to her husband are six children, Clarence Schroeder of Ringsted, Kenneth Schroeder of Estherville, Mrs. Raymond (Ilene) Jensen of Armstrong, Mrs. Robert (Neva) Keiler of Waterloo, Mrs. Lawrence (Venis) Madden of Agana, Guam, formerly of Estherville, and Mrs. Engwald (Opal) Sandstoe of Beaman, and 18 grandchildren.
Also surviving are five brothers, John Behrends, Lone Rock; George Behrends, Clifton, Ill.; William Behrends, Milford; Sebo Behrends, Ringsted; Mino Behrends, Ashkum, Ill.; and four sisters, Mrs. Mae Neile, Ohio; Mrs. Elsie Fritty, Cylinder; and Mrs. Soenna Gaullar, Gilman, Ill.
Mrs. Schroeder was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 11, 1957)
