Burl Nelson Ridout
Estherville Services for Burl Nelson Ridout, 67, Estherville, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, at the First Christian Church, Estherville, with the Rev. James Harmon officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville.

Mr. Ridout died Tuesday [July 18, 1978] morning at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ridout, he was born Aug. 8, 1910, in Hardin County. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School and attended Ellsworth College, Iowa Falls.

Mr. Ridout was married to Wilma McIntire in Aug. 10, 1936, in Emmet County. He came to Estherville after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II and operated a real estate and insurance business. He also served as a State Senator from 1948 to 1952.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the State Commission on Alcoholism.

Mr. Ridout is survived by his wife, Wilma, Estherville; two sons, William Ridout and Dennis Ridout, both of Estherville; three grandchildren; two brothers, Russell Ridout, Escondido, Calif., and Melvin Ridout, Ackley; and one sister, Mrs. Willard Vay, Ackley.

Mr. Ridout was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, is in charge of arrangements, where friends may call until 10 a.m. Thursday, when the body will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 19, 1978)
