Mrs. W. J. Reid Dies at Hospital
Mrs. William J. Reid of rural Ringsted, 71, lifetime resident of Emmet County, died today at 4:20 a.m. at Holy Family Hospital. Her death was attributed to a stroke that she had suffered at her home on Thursday. She was brought to the hospital by ambulance at that time.
The former Luella Quastad was born Oct. 16, 1894, in Swan Lake Township, the daughter of Ole and Martha Quastad.
She received her elementary and high school education in Emmet County and at Waldorf College, Forest City. She taught in the Emmet County rural schools.
Luella Quastad was married Aug. 3, 1914, to William J. Reid at Thompson. Since their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Reid had farmed in the Ringsted area.
She was a longtime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Gruver, and was active in Sunday school work there.
Mrs. Reid is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. P.J. (Everine) Rost of Estherville and Mrs. A.J. (Berneice) Johnson of Hawarden; two grandsons, James and Edward Rost; two brothers, John Quastad of Estherville and Adolph of Armstrong; two sisters, Mrs. Adolph (Ing--) Olson of Estherville and Mrs. Richard (Anna) Ihlen of Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services are to be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver, Rev. Benjamin Coltvet officiating. There will be a family service at 11 a.m. at Fuhrman Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home all day Tuesday until Wednesday noon at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services.
Pallbearers are to be a grandson, James Rost, and nephews, Omar Quastad, Donald Quastad, Max Quastad , Erle Reid and LeRoy Merriott. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 3, 1966)
