Mrs. Howard Reed Dies Unexpectedly
Mrs. Howard (Mary) Reed, 56, nurse’s aide at Holy Family Hospital for the past several years, died suddenly in her sleep early yesterday morning after having been admitted as a patient to the hospital Thursday evening. Death was attributed to a heart condition. Mrs. Reed complained of not feeling well a week ago Sunday while on duty at the hospital and was excused from further duty. She rested at home until Thursday evening when friends took her to the hospital.Mary Turner was born July 4, 1904 in El Paso, Ill., the daughter of Jobe and Elizabeth Turner. She received her education in the El Paso schools and attended the Estherville High School after moving to Emmet County.
She was married March 19, 1922 to Howard Reed at Spirit Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Reed have spent their entire married life in Estherville with the exception of a short time spent in Illinois and Washington.
Mrs. Reed was a member of the Estherville Christian Church. She also was a member of the Pythian Sisters lodge. For the past several years she had worked as a nurse’s aide at Holy Family Hospital, much of that time spent on the third (surgical) floor.
Mrs. Reed is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Patsy Jo) Juhl of Augusta, Ga.; and one sister, Mrs. Otto (Josephine) Pfeiffer of Pontiac, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Rites to Be Wednesday for Mrs. Howard Reed
Funeral services for Mrs. Howard Reed will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Christian Church, the Rev. Lester Strubhar officiating.A family service will be held at 12:00 at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 11 a.m. Wednesday. At that time, the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the time of the services.

Howard Reed Dies; Double Rites Held
Double funeral services were held this afternoon at the Estherville Christian Church for Mr. and Mrs. Howard Reed. Mrs. Reed died suddenly in her sleep Sunday morning at Holy Family Hospital and Mr. Reed’s death occurred last night at Cherokee. He has been in ill health for the past several weeks and underwent surgery at a hospital there some time ago. He had not been told of his wife’s death.Mr. Reed, 60, was born June 16, 1900 and was married in 1922 to Mary Turner of this city. Since their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Reed had sent most of their time in Estherville, having moved out of the state for short periods of time during the first few years of their marriage.
Mr. Reed was a machinist and welder by trade and had been employed by Hill Packing Company when the plant was in operation here.
Mr. and Mrs. Reed are survived by their daughter, Mrs. Dale (Patsy Jo) Juhl of Augusta, Ga. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 24, 1960)
