John Westrem Dies; Funeral Rites Wednesday
John Truman Westrem, 72, died at 8:35 Sunday [November 8, 1970] at Holy Family Hospital from cancer. He was ill since Aug. 17.

He was born March 23, 1898, at De Forest, Wis., to Samuel and Anna Marie Westrem and received his education at De Forest and Columbus, Wis.

He moved with his parents to Estherville July 6, 1916, and on Aug. 25, 1920, was married to Lottie Pickell at Dolliver. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August of this year.

He was employed by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad as an engineer for 48 years and was retired in 1964. He was a member of the United Methodist of Estherville and a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

He is survived by his wife, Lottie; two sons, John J. Westrem, Weston, Mo., and Merril J. Westrem, Fort Myers, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Florence Armstrong, Estherville; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Irene Wieland, Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dick Pearson officiating.

Burial will be at the East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home at Estherville after 9 a.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 9, 1970)
