Estherville – Services for Mrs. Frank (Bernadene) Fuhrman, 69, of Estherville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13 at St. Patrick’s Church in Estherville with Father Albert Grendler officiating. Interment will be in Eastside Cemetery in Estherville. She died Thursday, May 9, 1985 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at the Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville. The Legion of Mary Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Sunday with a parish rosary to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Bernadene Veronica Calhan, the daughter of George and Hildegarde (Coyne) Calhan, was born January 23, 1916 in Estherville. She received her education in the Gruver schools. She attended the Metropolitan Business College in Joliet, Ill., and was employed by the United States Government in Estherville and Storm Lake. On Sept. 12, 1939, she was united in marriage to Stanford Reid in Estherville. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Joliet, Ill. Mr. Reid died on January 23, 1949. On June 27, 1953, she married Frank Fuhrman in Estherville. The couple purchased the Sandin Funeral Home in Estherville in 1953 and the Martin Funeral Home in Graettinger in 1960. She assisted her husband in the operation of the Fuhrman Funeral Homes until his death on Oct. 24, 1980. She continued to assist her son in the business until her death. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville, the Altar and Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America, American Legion Auxiliary and the Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Suzan, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one son, Thomas and his wife, Sherry, Estherville, one grandson, Christopher, Estherville; four brothers: Robert, Clinton, Md.; Michael, Estherville; Leo, Lombard, Ill.; and James, Los Alamitos, Calif., and one sister, Fran Murphy, of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
She was preceded in death by both her husbands and her parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May11, 1985)
