Edgar Martin, 83, Succumbs Tuesday
Edgar Martin, 83, Estherville, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at his home. Mr. Martin was the father of Mrs. Jerry Hendrickson, Estherville.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church with burial at East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, after 10 a.m. Thursday until noon Friday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 3, 1971)

Dr. Edgar Martin Funeral Friday
Dr. Edgar Martin, 83, died at 10:15 p.m. Nov. 2 of a coronary occlusion. He and his wife had lived in Estherville since his retirement in 1961.

He was born Dec. 3, 1887, at Silom [Siloam] Springs, Ark., to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Martin. He received his elementary education in that area and completed his secondary education in Conway, Ark. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University, his Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin and his PhD from Kansas State University.

He taught school in Pratt, Kan., and was an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin. From 1923 until 1943 he was a professor of animal husbandry at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

He was married July 19, 1918, to Lucille Carmichael at Clinton, Ark.

In 1943 he moved to North Dakota and was associated with North Dakota State University in various capacities. During this time he lived in Hettinger, Valley City and Mayville. On his retirement in 1961 he moved to Estherville where he lived until his death.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War I. He was listed in Who’s Who in the field of Science in the 1940’s. He also received many other honors because of his work in the field of genetics.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Lucille, three sons, Edgar Elwood of Alexandria, Va., Robert Paul of Homewood, Ill., William Donald of Anaheim, Calif., and one daughter, Mrs. E.J. (Annette) Hendrickson of Estherville. He has eight grandchildren. He leaves four sisters, Mrs. Emmet (Cora) Walhaven and Mrs. H.W. (Lavica) Holloway, both of Grand Junction, Colo., Mrs. Floyd (Myrtle) Pace of Wilburton, Okla., and Mrs. C.C. (Etta) Johnsey of Fresno, Calif.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Estherville. The Rev. Richard Pearson will officiate. Interment will be in East Side cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, until noon Friday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 4, 1971)
