Mrs. Oscar Maddux, 81, of Estherville died Friday [April 11, 1969] at 11:15 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital. Reese-Henry Funeral Home is in charge. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 12, 1969)

Local Woman, 81, Dies; Rites to be Tuesday
Mrs. Oscar (Letha Teresa) Maddux, 81, Estherville, died at 11:15 p.m. Friday of congestive heart failure at Holy Family Hospital. She had been in failing health the past seven weeks.

She was born Nov. 2, 1887, at Lewis to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Russell. She was educated in Lewis schools.

She was married Nov. 25, 1908, to Oscar Maddux at Lewis.

After marriage the couple lived for a while at Lewis, then moved to a farm near Marne, where they lived until 1914. At that time they moved to a farm near Mora, Minn.

In 1922, the couple moved back to Lewis. In 1933, they moved to a farm near Estherville and later settled in Estherville.

She was a member of the Good Cheer Club for many years and of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Oscar, Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Calvin (Rachel) Petersen, Bellingham, Wash.; one son, Glenn, Wallingford; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Cecil Maddux, Minneapolis; three brothers, Austin, Red Oak; Harold, Pine City, Minn.; and Lester, Grants Pass, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two sisters and two brothers.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.
