Oscar Maddux, 86, Estherville, Dies; Rites Set
Oscar Maddux, 86, Estherville, died at 8:50 Sunday [February 15, 1970] morning at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg from complications of advanced age.

He was born July 2, 1883, at Cumberland to Adam and Flora Maddux. He was educated in the rural Cumberland schools and was married Nov. 25, 1908, to Letha Russell at Lewis.

The couple farmed at Lewis and then moved to Marne where they farmed until 1914, then moved to Mora, Minn., in 1922. In 1922, they moved back to Lewis and in 1933 to a farm near Estherville.

He had been a resident for the past five months in the Lake View Nursing Home in Emmetsburg and was a member of the Methodist Church in Lewis.

Survivors are a son, Glenn Maddux, Wallingford, and a daughter, Mrs. Calvin (Rachel) Peterson, Bellingham, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur Maddux, Vancouver, British Columbia, Harry Maddux, Red Oak, Virgil Maddux, Jefferson, Fred Maddux, Cross Lake, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Smith, Mora, Minn., and Mrs. Edith Macy, Braham, Minn.

Preceding him in death were his parents and wife.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Reese-Henry Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Rev. Dick Pearson officiating. Burial will be at East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today until time of services on Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 16, 1970)
