Mrs. Margaret MacLean, 70 years old, who has been a resident of Estherville for 24 years, died Saturday evening after an illness of two months. Although she has been in poor health for several years she has been able to be up and around. Mrs. MacLean’s last appearance at a public gathering was the last of April when she attended a meeting of the missionary society.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Presbyterian church with the Rev. A.G. Bailey officiating. Burial was in the East Side cemetery. She is survived by two brothers, William Rae of Madison, S.D., and Thomas Rae of Wheaton, Wyo.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Reese of Rio Linda, Calif.; two step-children, Neil MacLean of Canal Zone, Panama, and Mrs. Mary Johnson of Minneapolis; and thirteen grandchildren.
Mrs. Margaret MacLean was born September 26, 1859, in the south of Scotland, near Edenburough and was the daughter of John and Janet Rae. She spent her girlhood and young womanhood in Scotland, where she also received her schooling. In 1881 she with her parents came to the United States and established a home near Storm Lake. She continued to make her home there until the autumn of 1906 when she was united in marriage to Kenneth MacLean of this city. Mr. MacLean died in 1925.
Mrs. MacLean was a member of the Presbyterian church in Scotland and her membership in the Estherville Presbyterian church dates from the time of her residence in this community. She was a very devout and earnest Christian and was an active church worker as long as she was able. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, July 3, 1930)
