Perl James Rost, 69, died Saturday at the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Graveside services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church cemetery here at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Fr. Clair Boes officiating.Military graveside services will be conducted by the Estherville VFW and American Legion posts. Visitation will be at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Rost was born June 27, 1918, at Estherville to Edward and Augusta (Ketchen) [Earnest/Ernst] Rost. He received his education in the Estherville schools and was married to Everine Reed May 23, 1941.
The deceased served in the U.S. Army during World War II in both the European and Pacific theatres. Following the war, the couple made their home in Estherville where he was employed by the Rock Island Railroad. In 1961, he was employed by the Civil Service in Rapid City, S.D. He returned to Estherville in 1968 where he owned a repair business.
He was a member of VFW Post 3388 in Estherville.
Surviving are his mother, Augusta Rost of Estherville; two sons: James Rost and his wife Joan of Ames, and Edward Rost of Phoenix, Ariz., and two grandchildren: Allison and Daniel Rost of Ames.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Alfred. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 29, 1988)
