Estherville – Services for LaVerne J. [Joseph] Sifrit, 56, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with interment in the church cemetery where military graveside services will be observed. Father Albert O. Grendler will officiate. He died Thursday evening, April 19, 1984 at the Holy Family Hospital.Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Sunday. Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born June 28, 1927 at Estherville, the son of Arthur and Pearl (Ingvall) Sifrit. He attended and was a graduate of the Estherville Schools and attended the Iowa Lakes Community College. On May 29, 1953 he was united in marriage with Marian Ternes at Jackson, Minn. The couple lived here. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer from Federal Civil Service with the Department of Army in 1975 where he had served over 29 years. He was on duty in World War Two and he served in Japan and Germany; also in the Korean War and Viet Nam. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; seven sons: Mark, Omaha, Craig, Kevin, Darcy, David, Bruce and Eric all of Estherville; three daughters: Julie, Las Vegas, Joni Kroenke, Germany and Michele of Estherville; six grandchildren; two brothers, Harold of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Don of Estherville; one sister, Delores Enderson, Milford.
He was preceded in death by twin grandsons and his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 21, 1984)
