Orvis, 77, Dies; Native of Sumner
Estherville – J.H. Orvis, 77, former Estherville city treasurer and retired railroader, died of a heart attack at his home here yesterday.

Orvis, a native of Sumner, began work with the now defunct BCR&N Railway at the age of 16 as a relief telegraph operator and worked at 40 stations in Iowa and South Dakota.

He is survived by his wife, Mayme, and two daughters. (Waterloo Daily Courier, February 7, 1960)
