Bert Olson Rites Will Be Monday
Funeral services for Bert Olson, 64, who died Wednesday [December 29, 1954], will be held Monday at the Olson home at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. at the Fellowship Tabernacle with the Rev. Kenneth Fogleman of Fort Dodge officiating. Burial will be in Eastside cemetery.

Mr. Olson, for many years a scrap iron dealer in Estherville, had been in poor health for several years but became critically ill only last Friday.

He was born Nov. 23, 1890 at Joliet, Ill., the son of Carl and Elizabeth Olson, Mr. Olson moved to Emmet county with his mother when he was eight years old and grew to manhood in this community. He spent some time farming but for many years has been a scrap iron dealer here.

Mr. Olson was married to Mrs. Mardie [Smith] Collins, Dec. 24, 1926 and one daughter was born to them. He attended church regularly at the Fellowship Tabernacle.

Survivors in addition to his widow and his daughter, Mrs. Caroline Gray, are three stepchildren, Henry Collins of Fresno, Calif., Mrs. Harvey (Helen) Svenby of Dolliver, and Ethel Collins of Waterloo; one brother, Ole Olson of Brownsville, Tex.; three half brothers, Elmer Eike of St. Cloud, Minn., Clair Eike of Estherville, and Manly Eike, O’Fallen, Ill.; and two half sisters, Mrs. Rip Sartell, Sartell, Minn., and Mrs. Clarence Kinnander, Dolliver. Seven Grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two sisters, his stepfather and a half brother.

Pallbearers will be Barney Hassel, Gene Baker, Clarence Prentice, Charles Haas, Harlan Peterson and Richard Williamson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 31, 1954)
